We will still need a song...

Today I basically did only 3 things:
1. Ate
2. Drove
3. Watched movies

Saw Pirates of the Caribbean (again), Lost in Translation, and LA Confidential at Bri's, then drove off to see Something's Gotta Give with Tom and Celine (too lazy to link here...she's on my sidebar).
But we decided to go back to Tom's and watch Boondock Saints instead.

Pirates I have nothing more to say, except it's not as good as I remember, especially Johnny Depp. I left the theatre on my original viewing thinking it was a stellar performance by him, but on a second viewing, I realize it was only a great performance.

Lost in Translation seemed kinda...awkward at times. Maybe I'm just not classy enough to understand art films, or maybe I've just become accustomed to not thinking while watching movies (probably a little of column A and a lot of column B). Certainly it made me less inclined to visit Japan, and I lost a lot of respect for Japanese "culture".
Or, rather, as Alex put it, we hate what America has done to Japan.

LA Confidential was an excellent movie - best movie of the day.
Guy Pearce, Russel Crowe, and Kevin Spacey all at their finest, as well as some other good actors whose names elude me right now. Wonderful, wonderful film.

Boondock Saints was pretty good, and I think it would have been even better had I been able to properly follow all the dialogue (which would have been greatly facilitated by subtitles...unfortunately, we couldn't figure out how to turn them on :/). Interesting idea, but I think it would have been a much better movie without that stupid Roc guy, and had Willem Defoe's character not been gay.
Not that I have anything against gays, it was just unneccessary...it was only used for comic relief when he called other gay people fairies and fags.

Finished off the night by driving to Krispy Kremes for "dinner"...at 10:00.
American donuts don't make the best dinners, btw...
You don't have to put on the red light...

Karaoke last night, and once again I proved how incredibly non-existant my singing skills are.
So you know what to do when you can't really sing...
Scream really loudly and ham it up in a faux-Metallica, quasi-Jack Black voice.
Shouldn't have been listening to the D before going...
Props to Tom Hazelton for his wonderful rendition of some Mandarin song. But damn you, you two-faced bastard! In the car it's all "I prepared this song for you, Lee", then as soon as we get to the place, it's "this song's for you, Alex". I'm disappointed...

Still, it was all very fun. This past week I've discovered that people can be really cool even if they are still in high school (and not even in their graduating year).
Celine and Jodi - you're both alright in my books. :)
Pang, Hui, Serena...well, you were already in my books...

Karaoke ended, and it was time to fit 11 people in 2 cars...it was quite..."cozy"...with 3 people in the front. Sorry Celine - should have warned/asked you before reaching for the temperature controls *major embarrassment*
Vietnamese afterwards, and for some reason the bill got messed up and I believe we got charged a hell of a lot less than we should have. As a result, a few of us didn't have to pay.
Myself included :)

Then the fellowship was sundered. Gary, Al, Bri, Jess, and Serena were "too cool" for bubble tea, and Hui's sis had already come to pick her up.
So all the cool people (Celine, Tom, Tom, Jodi, and myself) went off for bbt! ^.^
I have bad luck with bbt - everytime I order a large I feel sick afterwards, but when I order a small it never seems to satisfy :/

And apparently, I'm a womanizer.
This coming from Tom "leave the girls to me" Carter, of all people (although he DID manage to bring 60% of the female population of our little get-together). Oi!
I'm not a womanizer, I'm just a "good host" (there's more than one way to deliver, mon ami ;)

Celine gave Tom (Hazelton) and I a crash course in Korean...and I must say, the writing is much more intuitive than either Chinese or Japanese, and more compact than English. I think I'm beginning to see why it is said that Korean is the most sophisticated language in the world (I believe this is meant only in the writing sense, but ask Tom for clarification on that one). It may be the only language in the world that you could read or write without understanding a word. Once you know the syllables, and have some practice, it seems like you could transcribe anything anyone says, as well as pronounce anything you see written (to a good approximation, at least). Once again, I am deeply saddened by the fact that I won't be able to fit in a language course next year...it's going to be hard enough to fit my biochem required courses and "strongly suggested electives" in, as well as Brain and Behaviour I and II (only ONE psych course 2nd year, and then in 3rd year there's only a half-credit course I'm allowed to take :( ).

I forgot to take my camera last night, and as a result there were many "Kodak moments". Grrrr...and I was planning to bring it, but just forgot as I rushed out the door.
Oh well. I have the pictures in my head, and that's good enough...

Voices of violence...

I think Billy Talent would make a great driving CD...as long as there's ample opportunity to drive fast, and few red lights.

That's all I wanted to say.
To everything, turn, turn, turn...

As I mentioned in the last post's addendum, sound is back.
And haloscan fixed the problem with the commenting system (last few hundred new users were registered incorrectly), so that's up and running.

Ran a Western Digital online diagnostic, and it turns out "your hard drive is not functioning properly".
So back to Future Shop it goes...and if they don't have a replacement, I may just have to beat the manager to death with the damaged one.
FUCK!!!!

Great...just abso-fucking-lutely great.
Now I'm not getting any sound.
None at all.
My speakers are still working fine, so I'm guessing now there's something wrong with my sound card.
Any minute now my power source will blow again, frying my motherboard and hopefully creating an explosion that will send a shard of plastic/metal through my heart, killing me.

I FUCKING HATE COMPUTERS!!!

God fucking damn this piece of shit machine!!!!

I am just about ready to take a fucking axe to this goddamn machine...

Addendum: turns out my mp3/wave audio had set itself to 0 volume AND muted itself...must have happened automatically one of the time I restarted.
Weird.
Comment system and hard drive still aren't working, tho...
I'm a loser, baby, so why don't you kill me...

Spent all day trying to install my new hard drive, to no avail.
Either:
a) it is recognized, as a 0MB drive
b) it is not recognized
c) "incorrect parameter" pops up anytime I want to work with it
d) it's recognized as a 32GB drive

I think it's probably a BIOS conflict (my BIOS is kinda old), but the software Western Digital says I should use at this point does not exist on either their installation CD or their site, which is really odd.

I know that the comment system doesn't work, that you get some weird column/row error when you try to comment, but it's a recognized problem on the haloscan msg board, and hopefully I'll get a solution in the next couple of days and fix it up.

This has been a very trying day...and once again it shows how much technology hates me - 2 comment systems that work fine on other people's blogs screw mine up, and the third is just busted.
A hard drive, which should be easy to install, somehow won't install no matter what I do (and makes weird ticking noises to boot).
My CD-player tape-deck car adapter thingie doesn't work at all anymore - it used to be rejected by my car's tape deck roughly 50% of the time, now that number has gone up to 100%.

Not only that, but Queen's biochem is listing CHEM240 as one of 3 options for a required course, but it doesn't exist in either the printed calender or the online one.

And not many people have been around, either...

Please, somebody, kill me.
And i'm quite aware we're dying...

Finally, thanks to the kind folks at Haloscan, I've gotten my comment system back! ^.^
Neither CommentThis! nor enetation worked for some reason...

Going to install my new 80GB HDD this morning, and spend some/all of the afternoon backing up files and formatting my 40-gig. Thing's been screwing up a like a mother, so I think it's long overdo for a clean wipe.

I've been here before a few times...

Flashback movie moment of the year:
Eowyn/Luke: I have to save you, father!
Rohan-guy/Vader: You...already...have....

Sweet sassy molassy! As soon as she went over to him, I was thinking "please...God...don't let them do the Star Wars thing."
But they did.

In case you couldn't tell, I saw LotR:RotK today, and it was easily the worst of the trilogy.
So...friggin'...tedious!
They could have cut a good half hour out of the movie at the ending alone, and then at least another half hour throughout the movie - and then they could have incorporated a bit more with Saruman, and still kept it under a respectable (and bearable) 2.5 hours.

But it wasn't all bad - I liked the elephaunts (even if they weren't in the book), and I liked the look of the undead, although, as my friend Scott said afterwards, they seemed a little too overwhelmingly powerful.

That's about all I have to say about LotR.
Except isn't it a bit (anti-climactic? Ironic maybe?) that it wasn't the incorruptibility of the hobbits, their courage, or goodness that prevails at the end, but greed, incompetence, and an inability to balance on small ledges.
Go figure.

I'm out...btw, what's everyone doing New Years?
Leave a comment (HAHA...actually, I'm working on fixing that...so just msg me ICQ or sumfing until I get that sorted out)

I'll miss your laugh, your smile...

Blogger seems to be fucked up...didn't change my template at all, and suddenly my sidebar's gone, as is everything past the opening bracket for the comment system on my last post...
Hopefully this post will fix things. *fingers crossed*

Went to FutureShop today, and I know what you're saying - I'm nuts.
Well, I guess I am. Wanted to grab an 80GB hard drive for $50 (after mail-in rebates...grrr...hate waiting for those >:| ), and ended up waiting in line for over 2 hours.
They had ONE cash in the computer section...where you:
a) directed questions on computer stuff
b) asked for the product, and had to wait for them to grab it from behind the glass
c) paid for it.
ONE cash. It was ridiculous. The line was maybe 50 people long, and these were often groups of 2-4 making one purchase, so it was really only, say, 20 purchases long.
And 2 hours.
Stupidity.

Picked up the Billy Talent CD for $8, new Blink for $10...yah, once again I'm a biter (al/gary).
Blink was worth the money (still haven't heard the whole CD yet, but what I've heard is pretty good), and Talent will have to be pretty crappy to not be worth a measly $8 (I've heard the first 30 seconds of the first track).

Addendum: apparently, the line that codes for my comment system was the cause of the problem (it's currently commented out). Now, it wasn't a problem yesterday, or this morning, and I didn't change a thing, so I have no clue why it's fucked up, but I guess that means no comments until I (read: one of you guys(!!!)) figure this out and fix it...

So if you really like Christmas, come on and let it snow...

Merry Christmas ya buggers! (and you non-buggers too)

Hope today is good for everyone.

Now down to business:
Anyone want a digital camera?

Earlier this year I debated strongly between the above-linked Powershot a70 (the better one of the two shown there, with 3.2 megapixel res.), and the Pentax Optio S.
I went with the Powershot.
I've regretted it ever since.

Now don't get me wrong - it's a fantastic camera. Good resolution, strong flash, sharp pictures, tons of shooting modes, and more control in the manual settings than any amateur will ever use. Plus you can attack special SLR-style lenses to the front, and they even have an underwater accessory for all you scuba divers out there.

The thing is...I wanted a camera I could fit in my pocket and carry around at all times...
...and the A70 is a wee bit too big for that.
It's the price you pay for having a better, more functional camera.

But I don't want a better, functional camera anymore...I want a slightly not-as-good camera that I can carry around all the time.

So I'm figuring, if I can recoup some of my losses from this camera, I might be able to swing grabbing an Optio S while they're kinda cheap (Boxing Day sales and all that good stuff).

Alright...so I have the camera itself (in mint condition - still has the plastic protector thingie over the display), 8 AA batteries (Ni-MH, 1850mAh...in other words, long-life, very powerful rechargeables) - enough for one set in the camera and one backup set, and a 256MB compact-flash card.
Comes with all the cables you need (for connecting to comp and TV), original manuals and software, and a bonus 16MB compactflash card.
Plus a "Digital Photography for Dummies" book, and the rest of my 2 yr warranty and Black's bonuses (coupons).
I'm willing to give all this away for...say...$600 or best offer.
And if you ask really nicely, I may throw in a battery charger as well (if you have a charger yourself, make sure it can charge Ni-MH batteries, and it is rated for up to 1850mAh, otherwise it won't charge the batteries).

Any takers?

Now you see it...

This was as far as I had planned the design of my site.
After signing up for 3 (!) different free webhosts, I finally found one that I'd be able to link to for images properly (go Angelfire!) - images hosted at Geocities ended up being dead image links when I tried to view them on this site, and Tripod images were replaced with this:

But now it's finally done.
Hope y'all like the new look...I may still fiddle with it a bit, maybe add some fun stuff to the sidebar - new links, an "about" section, mood-tracker [unlikely since it requires frequent updating and i'm lazy :P], maybe even an emotional tampon level...whatever piques my interest, and I can steal from someone else's site ;)

If you want your blog listed on my list o' blogs, leave a comment or send me a msg. I'll check it out, and if I start to read it regularly, I'll add it to the list (don't want my list to be HUGE, and I can't endorse just anyone!)

If you think I'm a biter for using Chinese characters, I blame it on the Japanese - they have no unique characters for nouns and adjectives :/
If you think I'm a biter for using Japanese characters, then you're right...
...but I'm taking a Japanese course next year (hopefully), so it's ok! ^.^
We three kings...

Al and Gary - you just made my day.

These guys show up unexpected at my door today (something I'm sure many of you experienced as well), spreading xmas cheer. Having been bored up to this point, they really brightened my mood, then I hopped in the magic non-fuel-consuming car and joined them in their hooliganizing.

You guys are great...

Gotta run off to church now...in case I don't post tomorrow, Merry Christmas to all.

We lift the rocket/out of the pocket/nothing can stop it/we can only watch it...

China's going to launch their first manned spacecraft soon.

Now that I'm done tying this post to the title, the real event:

I can't connect to this site with my ftp prog (WS_FTP LE, as per radio ninja's advice), because I'm an idiot who's useless with a computer.

Here's what I got:

Profile Name: [unimportant]
host name/address: flyingllama.blogspot.com
host type: automatically detect
user id: [my blogger user id]
password: [my blogger password...no, i won't share it]
account: [i left this blank]

I'm guessing the problem is with the host name/address...but I'm not sure...can ya help me out here?

Addendum: after searching around some blogspot FAQs (that's gotta be one of the least-well-designed sites ever), I'm getting the sinking sensation that you can't FTP to a blogspot site, unless you have a "blogspot plus" site, which I'm sure entails spending money :/

Maybe I should look into Dan/Shim's little $6 US a year, 1GB storage scam.
Too bad flyingllama.com is already taken...
...and they don't even have a good logo.

I'm disappointed! *much finger shaking*
I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes...

Love Actually was, I believe, the funniest movie I've seen all year.
True, it was a bit...serendipidous at times (ie. all the way through), but still there's nothing that compares with the comedy gold that is Bill Nighy.

I think I'll find myself a copy of premiere and just string together all the scenes he's in...

Liam Neeson and his kid were pretty good too...what's with Liam always playing opposite a cute little British boy in his UK movies, anyway?

Long movie, though - especially for a romantic comedy - clocking in at just over 2 hours.

Went to work this morning, got there at 9, didn't see a customer in the trees by 11:30, asked to leave, and went home.
It was great.

I'd like a cup of milkshake...

Well, I've begun to make my new template...
This site will be under construction for the next little while...but the blog will (hopefully) be updated and visible when you visit...

~A little while later~

Gotta get some html lessons...like:
a) how to draw horizontal/vertical lines (in a certain color)
b) how to insert images at certain places, with a certain size
c) how to divide my webspace into separate pages...so I can link to a different page from the main page
d) how to do drop-down menus (I'll probably just steal the code from Mimi's site)
...
I think that's about it for now. Wish I had a more complete color list than what's offered at webmonkey, but for now I guess it will suffice.
Could always make up colors in Word/ICQ, then convert the RGB code to hex, but then I'll need to find a website that'll do that conversion for me (or you could find it for me...).

Finally, on the image thing - I would very much appreciate it if someone could either give me a good FTP program, or send me a link to a site where I could download one...

I'm not tired, I just sleep...

Well, actually I was quite tired today, but that's just the norm.

Work can almost become enjoyable on a day like today - not too cold, a few customers, and just enough work to keep you busy, albeit at a fairly relaxed pace. I felt pretty good today, and it went fairly quickly.
5:00 rolls around, and I'm giddy as can be - for once, it looks like we'll be able to leave on time.

But no, my hopes were dashed, as they always are...

Two stinking fucking Russians came in 2 minutes before closing and started looking for a tree.
They kept me there 'til 5:30...made me give them a fresh cut, bag it, put it in their car...
...and then they didn't tip me.
Of all the jack-ass things to do, they then proceeded to sit and chat in the parking lot for 10 minutes...
Those guys ruined my not-perfect-but-still-pretty-damn-good day...

Oh well...I'll just stare at my Lava Lamp and all the hate will melt away...
*zones out*

Leaving it all behind...

"It" in the title refers to modesty, and the person of which we are referring is none other than my favourite pop star, Michelle Branch, who, as you might have guessed from that pic, "graces" the cover of the January issue of Maxim magazine.

Why, Michelle, why?!?

You used to be so innocent!
Even if you weren't the prettiest thing outside of promo shots...

Supposedly, she has a pirate fetish (you got an in, Brian!!!...although you don't dig her...meh), and likes to watch porn on the tour bus...
I got these tidbits from message boards - people who had read them in the Maxim interview - so they are true, unfortunately...
Oh, Michelle....no, damnit, I'm not happy now...

In reality, I find it disappointing, but this ain't gonna turn me off Michelle...she's still got good music, whether or not her morals are now somewhat questionable. And after all, it is only Maxim, not a real porn mag...although the whole watching-porn-in-my-bus thing is kinda creepy...what kind of woman watches porn anyway? I thought only men could be so debased...and it's not like a woman would want to see other naked women...and guys are just hideous, especially when naked...
So what's up with that, Michelle?

Will this ruin her as an artist?
Probably not - it will neither drastically reduce her record sales (they might in fact go up), nor (hopefully) leak into her music, and turn her into an Aguilara (sp?...i think you all know what I mean).

The rest of the Maxim pics can be seen here [click on the main picture, then go to "pictures", "magazines", "Maxim"], including the ones where she actually isn't wearing any sort of clothing on her upper half, which I found to be a little too risque for a direct link from this site.

1 down, 7 to go...
Exam periods, I mean, in my undergraduate years...

Just finished chem (choose 25 of the following 36 multiple choice; 10 of the following 17 short answer - I love you Dr. Baird!), and you'd think I'd be elated to be done exams.

Unfortunately, I went to check my psyc exam mark after...sure, I got 92% overall (on my exam and thus far in the year) which is pretty damn good, but I got 6/10 on one of my essays >.<
Yah, I know that I predicted something like that, but there's a difference between saying "I think i got 6.5 or 7 on that essay" and seeing 6 in print...

But that's nothing, that's nothing...92 is a very respectable mark.

Now that exams are over, you'd think it would be time to party...
Unfortunately, everyone is gone, 'cept bri and I (curse you all! >:( ), and most of the people I know here are leaving in the next couple of hours...

So our celebrations will be fairly low-key...

They can take our lives, but they will never take our freedom

Will anyone ever film a historic epic that could rival the masterpiece that is Braveheart?

I think it's an impossible task, akin to making a space-movie better than the original Star Wars (albeit harder).

Gladiator, The Last Samurai...both fine films, but none even begin to approach Mel Gibson at his finest.
And Troy will fare no better, I guarantee it.

I've probably forgetten a couple of movies (I don't count WWII movies in this category - although Braveheart blows Saving Private Ryan out of the water...Schindler's List, the Pianist, and movies like that don't fall into the same genre, imho), but even if you remind me of some of them, I'll be able to (rightfully) shoot them down in a heartbeat.

It is such a great movie...definitely worth skipping chem studying to watch it ^.^
I should probably pick up the DVD at some point...

Monday, December 15, 2003

I think i'll give up on this titling thing soon...

Came back from bio exam - finished in under 2 hours, not because I aced it but cuz those questions I didn't know the answer for I really didn't know the answer to...I got some of them down to two or three options, but after that it was all guesswork.

So I went with my original gut instincts, and left.

Then remembered I left my textbook back at Gary's...so looks like I won't be able to check those questions I was unsure of...oh well...

Only one more to go...chem116...and I have lost all will to study. Hopefully those last-minute tutorials tomorrow will tell me all I need to know.

But studying comes tomorrow. Tonight, I'm gonna just sit back, relax, and look at a little hentai.

It's good to be home...

I'm back at Queen's, safe and sound...what a ride.

Roads are incredibly snowy...people sliding all over the place - saw a car wiped out at LEAST every 30 minutes on that bus ride...

So while I'm trying to study, and listening to the melodious sounds of 3 Doors Down, I'm thrown forward in my seat, and see a wall of snow on the left hand side of the bus.
We hit the guardrail a second time before sliding to a stop...
Thankfully, we didn't flip or anything...which is remarkable, because those guardrails have got to be lower than the bus' centre of gravity, but I guess we weren't going fast enough to flip. There was no real damage to the bus (saw after I got off that the front bumper was just scraped a bit), so we just went on our way...
...a bit slower, now.

Finally got to the terminal an hour and a half late (understandable, with the weather and all), and then sat phoning taxi companies for almost an hour, continually getting a busy signal. Finally, this French (I think) girl asked where I was going, and suggested we share a cab, once we get a hold of one.
So we both started calling the taxi companies...and in the end it was all in vain, as she looked out the window and saw that one had pulled up anyway.
A quick cab ride later, I was back at 194 Stuart St...

...and it's good to be home.

Now what's for dinner, mom?
Mom...?

Damn.

Looks like it's Mr Noodles again *sigh*

Go Jess, it's your birthday...

Yeah, that's right - so wish her a good one!

Yesterday was fun. Props to Al, the man with the plan, and Danny C, aka Mr. Teal, for his fantastic reconnaisance work.
Went back to the school (again!), this time with Al, Max, and Will, to surprise Jess during lunch, and she seemed pleasantly surprised, which was good.

Unfortunately, we decided to stop by Ms Corry's room...and had to do presentations to the gr. 9 giftees (twice!)...which was probably not a good idea - I think we passed on nothing but cynicism. Honestly, I'm bad enough alone in front of the crowd, but with the crew behind me, it turns into nothing but a mockery...I don't think I said anything seriously in any of those talks. Quite humorous to see Ms Corry try to introduce Will - who introduced himself as "a bum on the street who came in to pick fries off the cafeteria floor".

Also saw "The Last Samurai", which I found to be a very good movie. Sure, it was kinda cheesy at points, maybe even predictable, and it reeked of Kenshin at some points (oh no! I ruined part of the plot! Of course, anyone who saw the trailer would know this anyway...), but I thought it was a fun movie. And, of course, anything with that much katana-wielding is good...plus you got your NINJA fights, yo!
Anyway, I would strongly suggest it for anyone who wants to see an action movie, or get in touch with their inner Japanese.
Because we all have a little bit of Japanese in us...

SAKE!

You can never get away...

So I just got back from MDHS.

Arrived before first period, so I could be there for the AP English class (aiya, why did it have to be 1st period? I need my sleep, I needz it!!!). But I was fooled - instead of listening in on an interesting class discussion, and perhaps reading some chem, Ms Corry got me to go up and tell everyone about how university was.
So I blundered through a pretty pathetic talk (what can I say, I was unprepared), with Ms Corry prompting me along the way about what to talk about, but in the end I think I managed to impart some wisdom on those impressionable young 'uns, as well as pushing Queen's whenever possible.

Second period was a bit more talking with Ms Corry, then playing some trivia/puzzle game with Jess et al in the library.
Third period was visiting period - saw Mrs. Horton, Nowi, Steiner, The Woz, Ms P...Horton says hi to y'all, btw. Things haven't really changed around there much (although, as Mr. T pointed out, we were there only 2 or 3 weeks ago).

Then it was time to randomly talk to people's brothers (Jim Kuo, Karen's bro, Bryan Chong) - I always thought Jim was more geeky-looking...like his brother. (j/k, Tim! :P)

Finally, spent some time talking to Mimi. Turns out I've been living in her locker for the last little while, which was news to me. Sorry about that, Mims, I'm sure now that I've moved out you can fit more stuff in there. :)
And, of course, the obligatory music teacher visit - only Mr. T was in the office, but it was good talkin' to him. Gr. 11s and 12s are each their own band now, for festival time...down to 55-65 members each...smaller than last year's Wind Symphony, which already seemed kinda bare.
Then again, I was always used to the 140+ person Wind Symphonies...

Ya know, sometimes I wish I was still back at MDHS...but only for band, Vox, and yearbook...
...and AP physics.
...and AP english.

good times....no, stuponfucious times!

Monday, December 08, 2003

Alright, I tried to post a little while ago, but I guess it didn't save/register/post it :/

Anyway, I think it's about thyme this website had a makeover. It's looking kinda...ratty, old fashioned, simple, and I-just-used-a-blogger-template-esque.

So I'm going to change it.
Probably.
After exams.
Assuming I remember how to do ANYTHING in HTML...

*looks up* alright, that should give me enough leeway so I can slip out of it when someone catches me for not updating it :P

Gotta go back to work tomorrow...full day, 9-5.
blech.
And I gotta take the BUS there >.<
What good is a licence without a car? Should have waited a few months before junking that old rust-bucket van of ours...could have driven it to work this week, and next week (if I work at all...), and just around during the holidays.
Oh well, can't have everything, can we? At least it's supposed to be warm :)

Hopefully I'll make it to the school on Wednesday...hang out with those ca-RA-zy markhamites, brag to Mitchell about how easy the calc exam was, maybe get Nowi to show me how to do rotational motion in the vertical plane (I hate gravity), sit in on an enriched/AP english class perhaps...

Friday, December 05, 2003

Haha...who needs studying?
Just came back from my calc exam and I smoked that bitch!!!

How does it feel to have my dick up your ass, Queen's?

There was only one slightly difficult thing on that exam (a limit), and I couldn't be bothered to think about it so I just whipped out a little L'Hopital's Rule (which I haven't officially learned in either AP or this year) and called it a night.

Only reason it took me (almost) 2 hours - I wanted to make completely sure I didn't have any stupid algebraic error (ie. 1+1=1...did that soo much last year).

God DAMN that was easy...

Time to party!
Oh Lord.
Just came back from my physics exam.

It was supposed to be 2 hours long, but due to a secretorial screw-up, it ended up being labelled as 3 hours.

Which was good, considering my prof walks by after 2 hours and 10 minutes and proceeds to say "oh, didn't I give you the masses in that question? Oops"

Of course, the question was impossible without the masses (2 equations, 4 unknowns - you do the math). So I had like 3 pages of scratched out work there...

But in the end, I think I got that question right, as well as the first and second questions. The format, btw, was 4 questions, each worth 5 marks, plus 2 conceptual bonus questions worth a mark each.

Here's how I think I scored:
1. 5/5
2. 4/5
3. 4/5
4. 2/5
5. 2/2 (bonus)
Which puts me at 17/20...85%. Hopefully I did that well.

That 4th question was actually on the last assignment - I managed to pull off an impressive 0.5/3 that time. And the TA's remarks were NOT helpful...so I just hoped I'd never see something like that again.

Cursed Murphy's Law!

I think I managed to improve on my answer a bit...enough to warrant a 2/5 in pity points and part marks.

That was easily the most stressful test/exam I've ever written - there's nothing that's more stress-inducing than trying to solve an impossible problem that's worth 6.25% of your overall mark.

Oh well, it's over. Time to start studying for calc...which is at 7:00.
Tonight.
And I told someone I'd meet them for dinner at 6.
So that gives me...10 minutes to study.
*sobbing uncontrollably*

Queen's: "Hey Lee, I've got a birthday gift for you"
Lee: "Yay! What is it?"
Queen's: "My big fat dick up your ass"
Lee: "OH MY SWEET LORD THE PAIN!!!!!"

1 down, 4 to go

Well, the psyc exam didn't go as badly as I thought it would. 100 multiple choice, 3 "essay" questions, and I was done in less than an hour and a half...then just had to check stuff over (changed a few MC, put a few more sentences in the essays), and leave...45 minutes before the exam period ended.

Took a complete guess as to the person who developed the trichromatic theory of color vision, turned out I was right (yay for Helmholtz!) - but come on, how important is it really that we remember these peoples' names - there's at least 50 different names in the 10 chapters we had to cover!

Hopefully it's acceptable to say that leptin is a "neurotransmitter/chemical that acts in the hypothalamus"...and hopefully they don't mind that my diagrams are exceedingly ghetto and crappy.

Figure I got 9 or 9.5 on the first essay, 7 on the second, and 9.5 or 10 on the third (I love Lenny...er...I mean "HM").

Alright, time to study hardcore for physics...and by that, I mean play Diablo II!

Catch y'all later!
